Michael Nissenbaum
President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Nissenbaum joined Aprima in 2004 after a highly successful career at Millbrook Corporation and GE Healthcare. As president of Millbrook Corporation, he oversaw five years of compounded revenue growth in excess of 80%, six product releases, and receipt of numerous product awards, including three successive MS-HUG awards. During his tenure, the company grew from 24 employees to over 140 employees, supporting over 10,000 physicians in 65 specialties and sub-specialties, across the country.
At General Electric, Mr. Nissenbaum led the commercialization of GE Healthcare – Clinical Data Services, accelerating the growth of the medical record database from 11 practices delivering 600,000 records to 57 practices providing over 2.5 million records. This growth resulted in a fourfold increase in orders and a tripling of revenue.
Before Millbrook, Mr. Nissenbaum was associated with various technology companies in Texas and Illinois. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago and is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst®.
Neil Simon
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Simon brings a strong combination of operational and technology leadership to his role as Chief Operating Officer of Aprima, a position he has held since joining the company in 2004. Prior to Aprima, he was GE Healthcare’s General Manager in charge of Centricity Physician Office products.
Before that, Mr. Simon was Vice President of Operations and Chief Technology Officer at Millbrook Corporation, one of the nation’s top physician practice management vendors, where his vision led the product development group. He also oversaw technical support, training, and information technology. A software veteran, Mr. Simon participated in the design and development of Active-X for Healthcare released by Microsoft Healthcare Users Group (MS-HUG). Mr. Simon is a former member of the MS-HUG HIMSS advisory board.
Scott Lentz
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Lentz joined Aprima as Chief Financial Officer in September 2009. Lentz has more than 20 years of financial, operations and business development experience with aggressive growth, venture-backed companies, including more than 10 years in the healthcare information technology sector.
Prior to joining Aprima, Lentz served as CFO of PracticeOne, LLC, a national provider of automation solutions to medical practices. Before joining PracticeOne, Lentz served for seven years as CFO of Picis, Inc., a provider of information solutions for the acute care areas of hospitals. At Picis, he completed several acquisitions, raising over $200 million in financing to fund the company’s growth.
Mr. Lentz received his MBA from the University of Washington in Seattle and a Bachelor of Science in Management from the United States Coast Guard Academy where he received the Marine Underwriters’ Award for Highest Proficiency in Economics.
Mark L. Richards
Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing
Mr. Richards serves as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and is a member of the management team at Aprima. He joined in December 2008. He is a proven leader, manager and sales professional with over 25 years of healthcare sales experience and high-level expertise in healthcare and technology, including all aspects of software, systems, and services. At Aprima he leads the direct and reseller sales channels and contributes to the development of marketing programs for the company.
Prior to joining Aprima, he was most recently at McKesson’s Physician Practice Solutions business unit, where he held the position of Division Vice President of Group Practice Sales. At McKesson, he successfully managed four direct sales teams for the Practice Partner and Horizon Practice Plus software suites selling into the physician and hospital markets.
Mr. Richards holds a B.S. Degree in Marketing and Management from Maryland’s Towson State University’s School of Business and Economics.
Dr. Jeffrey Hyman
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Jeffrey S. Hyman joined Aprima is its Chief Medical Officer in 2006. As an early adopter of Aprima’s electronic health record software starting in 2002, he contributes valuable first-hand insight that drives feature and usability improvements. He also acts as a facilitator on bi-monthly conference calls between the Aprima product development staff and a panel of customers so that the product roadmap reflects the needs of physicians from a wide range of specialties.
Dr. Hyman is passionate about the use of electronic health records and how EHRs can enhance the quality of medical care in the 21st century. He has written many articles on EHR implementation. He is an active participant in the dialogue on the value of the EHR and has participated at many healthcare-focused trade shows and at Aprima’s user conferences.
Dr. Hyman received his medical degree in 1981 from SUNY (State University of New York), and went on to complete his residency training at Maimonides Medical Center in 1984. He is currently board certified in Internal Medicine.
In 1994, he established one of the first walk-in medical offices in Brooklyn, NY – The Treat and Release Center. It is there that he still practices medicine and is the managing physician of the office, where over 65 patients a day are treated with the help of two other physicians. It is at The Treat and Release Center where Dr. Hyman first started using Aprima (in 2002), and continues to do so today.
Dr. Hyman is also the Medical Director of the University Physicians Group (UPG), a 65-doctor primary care and multi-specialty medical group serving patients in Staten Island and Brooklyn, NY since January 2000. His functions there are both clinical and administrative. The Treat and Release Center is part of UPG.
Daniel Popp
Vice President Engineering
Mr. Popp joined Aprima in 2004. He has a strong background in engineering management and technological leadership. He brings more than 20 years of healthcare software development experience to Aprima. Mr. Popp brought healthcare products to market for GE Healthcare, Physicians Information Exchange and United American Healthcare. Prior to joining Aprima, Mr. Popp was GE Healthcare’s Engineering Manager in charge of Centricity Physician Office products.
Mr. Popp is a graduate of Southern Methodist University where he received his MBA from the Cox School of Business.
Dave Shaw
Vice President Business Development
Mr. Shaw joined Aprima in 2004. He brings extensive career experience in healthcare IT sales and customer service to his position as Vice President of Business Development, a position he was appointed to in 2007. Prior to that, Mr. Shaw led the Strategic Accounts and Value Added Reseller Channel, achieving great success as the Eastern Area Sales Director.
Previously, Mr. Shaw spearheaded the success of sales and Value-Added Reseller (VAR) teams at such companies as Millbrook Corporation, Companion Technologies (MedicWare EMR, MegaWest and Medical Manager), The Cactus Group and PracticeONE.
Mr. Shaw received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
Margaret White
Vice President Customer Satisfaction
Margaret White serves as the President of AprimaRCM which provides all of the Revenue Cycle Management services to Aprima customers. Previously, Ms. White was President and founder of Health Care Strategies, which was acquired by Aprima in August 2011. In 1996, White, along with her partners, founded HCS to provide comprehensive back office services to physicians and is continuing that mission as part of Aprima. Margaret is a graduate of Texas A&M University – Commerce. As a certified public accountant, she has been in the health-care industry for more than 30 years and has diverse experience including serving as a hospital business manager, being the associate director for a large multi- specialty clinic, and the chief financial officer for the Texas Back Institute.
